Montrose Basin - House of Dun

Walk ID: 988

Starting in Montrose, this walk uses track, paths and roads to traverse half of the Montrose Basin, an important nature reserve. The basin attracts many bird species throughout the year and the visitor centre on this walk is worth visiting. Continuing from the centre along a road to Old Montrose, a path leads along the South Esk and mud-flats to The Bridge of Dun and Caledonian Steam Railway which runs throughout the summer from there and Brechin. The House of Dun, a National Trust for Scotland building, is only one kilometre further along this road. Suggested route from here is a taxi or bus back to Montrose, as walking is on a busy road.
