Melbourne is the second largest town in South Derbyshire, with a population of around 5,000. It is an ancient town in the centre of a fertile market-gardening area. This walk starts in the centre of Melbourne, close to Melbourne Hall and Church. The parish church is one of the finest examples of Norman Ecclesiastical architecture in the country and dates from the mid-12th Century. The walk begins by walking through a variety of fields and up the hill towards Park Farm Cottages. You then descend to join Green Lane and the bridleway which runs along the district boundary. Returning towards Melbourne you will pass through two sets of woods, which can be very picturesque in springtime. Finally you will return to Melbourne Park and Pool.

We did this short 3 mile walk today. Weather was mixed … sun, rain, hail, bitterly cold wind, but we still enjoyed it. The walk started from the centre of Melbourne in Derbyshire, close to Melbourne Hall and Church. We walked through a variety of fields, up a hill, and through woods with Bluebells. Did this walk on 10/05/09. Beautiful walk, especially through small woods covered in bluebells. Also Melboune Park.
