UNDER REVISION
Hertford Union Canal - Limehouse Cut - Regent's Canal - River Lee - Channelsea River - Greenway - Lea Valley Walk.
This walk is temporarily closed due to Olympic Park works.
This is a quiet and relaxed walk in East London, though you are never far from the noise of traffic and human activity and industry. The walk is mainly along towpaths with only 500 metres of road-walking, most of which might be eliminated when the Limehouse Basin development is completed. Many of the areas have seen a thriving, busy past, especially the canals. Many areas are neglected and used as rubbish tips and scrapyards, whereas others are being revitalised with refurbished offices, housing and parks. The Northern Outflow Sewer was built by the Victorians to combat the pollution of the Thames and is still in use today, though with a new pumping station. There is a surprising number of birds and wildlife on the canals and rivers.
