Tollie - Slattadale (Loch Maree) - Tollie

Walk ID: 805

Beginning near Poolewe, this walk is best done (scenically) from north to south. The first half climbs to 300m through a narrow, winding pass; the second descends through more open moorland to Loch Maree (just above sea level). The loch, with its many wooded islands, is very photogenic. Many improvements have been made to the path, but it is still rough in places. Several burns have to be crossed and the first two require care after heavy rain. There are few decision-making points en route - there is only the one path. So, many of the waymarks are in fact viewpoints.

25/08/05 - Keith Mead : This is a lovely walk, with varied terrain and excellent views. I walked from Slattadale to Tollie - which involves 100m or so extra climbing - but the path is well graded, and it only took about 2.5 hours (excluding a half-hour picnic stop at WP6).

09/08/06 - David Crowder : We recently did this walk (August 2006) and would highly recommend it. The whole walk is very scenic and the views of the loch are worth some hard work at the beginning. It took us about 3 hours with a couple of short stops. We parked at the Slattadale carpark, then caught the Scotbus Inverness to Poolewe bus to the Tollie carpark, the start of the walk. This is a hail and ride service so will pick up and drop off anywhere it's safe to stop. You could do it the other way round of course though this way you don't have the worry of missing the bus when you're very tired!

06/09/02 - axel stevens : We stayed at poolewe august of this year 2002 and did this walk.It offers marvelous scenery. But is quit tough on a warm day.It took us 4.5 hours one way only!If you want to go back again it will take an untrained walker 9.00hours!!This is no easy walk!By no means
