Ruthven - Glen Tromie
|
Walk
ID: 664 |
Follow farm and moorland tracks up from the barracks onto heather moorland, passing an isolated, ruined cottage at Braeruthven. A short detour can be made to the summit of Beinn Bhuidhe, a 360-metre hill overlooking Kingussie. On the moorland, several pathways diverge, but the intended route is the most obvious.
Continue straight ahead down the steep side of Glen Tromie to a sign, where a short diversion to avoid disturbance to isolated houses leads down to a private bridge over the River Tromie. Either cross the bridge to follow the tarmac road on the far bank, or, preferably, stay on the near bank of the river to follow a clear track through the woods back to the B970.
At the road, turn left, after 100m right and almost immediately left again, onto a grassy trail through a field towards the RSPB car park. At the car park, follow a short stretch of old road onto the B970 again and follow this back to Ruthven.
