Drummossie Muir: Tomfat Wood - Daviot Wood
|
Walk
ID: 580 |
Beginning at Tomfat Wood car park (see Access Info') the walk traverses part of Drummossie Moor, partly in forest, partly across open moor giving views to Ben Wyvis (1,100m) and the Moray Firth to the north. The first and last parts of the walk are on good, generally dry paths, but the middle section can be boggy, so stout footwear is advised. At Waymark 05, the start of the more difficult walking, the walker has a choice. To his left there is a broad track bulldozed a few years ago to enable fire-fighting vehicles to reach a forest fire. In wet weather it becomes a lake and is best avoided. The alternative, narrower path, is the better choice. The walk follows, for a short distance, one of General Wade's Military Roads, one of many built after the '45 Rebellion to prevent another uprising. The walk ends at the Information Centre, Daviot Wood, on the A9 (open Easter to early October).

The landownership in the first part of this walk is contentious. We are trying to get agreement for a promoted route on alternative tracks to link with Daviot wood. We will send update as this progresses. David
