Banchory - Scolty Hill - Banchory

Walk ID: 428

This walk leaves the car park and follows a narrow road which leads to Scolty Woodland Park. Once on the woodland park the path through coniferous woodland starts off fairly level, then gradually begins to rise. The wooded area gives way to more open moorland covered with bracken and heather. The gradient increases and eventually the top of the hill is reached. From the top, the distant hills form a wonderful vista. Panoramic views into the valleys of the rivers Dee and Feugh are impressive.

Situated at the top of the hill is a memorial tower which can also be climbed. From the top of the hill the descent is quite steep and stony in places. The track continues back through a deciduous tree-lined path to complete a loop.
On leaving the forest park, the walk can be continued along a pavement to the Bridge of Feugh. This is a favourite spot from which to view the Falls of Feugh, which are crossed by a pedestrian bridge. From this bridge salmon can be seen leaping out of the water as they try to get farther upstream. A nearby car park has an information board giving information on the life history of the salmon.

The walk ends with an easy stroll back along a pavement to the starting point.
