The North York Moors is a spectacular place for walking and the Esk Valley is still fortunate to have a train line running through it, from Middlesbrough to Whitby. This gentle linear walk is between three picturesque villages in the Esk Valley: Danby, Castleton and Commondale. The walk commences close to the centre of Danby (near the train station) and takes the walker northwards through the Esk Valley, first close to Castleton and then onto Commondale. It is worth watching out for the miniature railway in the private gardens as you walk from Castleton onto the track towards Commondale; an impressive railway for a garden. This walk is suitable for all-terrain pushchairs, with the return being made via the train. It is an ideal low-level walk to enjoy the spectacular views of the Esk Valley, with the enjoyment of a return trip via train.
