Dunain Hill and Craig Phadraig, Inverness

Walk ID: 411

Beginning at Craig Dunain Hospital the walk is first through mixed woods, then climbs through an old pine and larch forest to the summit of Dunain Hill (281m), where there are views to the Cairngorms, along the Great Glen and across Moray Firth. A timber extraction track leads to Craig Phadraig, a vitrified fort a mile and a quarter away. (There are many paths on Craig Phadraig, hence the numerous waymarks in a short distance). The road back to the car park gives panoramic views of Inverness.

17/01/03 - Access Highland : From Access Highland Land owners at Dunain Hill have objected to the route being promoted, and the GGW had difficulty establishing access in the area. The route to Lakin Brae and Craig Phadrig is particularly contentious, although informal walking is not a problem. Beware of the promoted walk issues this may raise. David

17/01/03 - Access Highland : From Access Highland FC and HAP are looking to extend walks in Craig Phadrig wood so the routing is likely to change soon. Will keep you informed. David

16/05/05 - Geoffrey Masterman : I took my GPS on this walk and it's more like 10.5km!

13/11/09 - GORDON LINDSAY : Excellent walk and very clear instructions all the way; good job.
