A Circuit of Heaval and Hartaval
|
Walk
ID: 3832 |
The Island of Barra is an island of contrasts - rocky shores and beautiful beaches around the edge and hills, perhaps better described as miniature mountains, in the centre. The highest of these is Heaval, rising prominently above Barra's main village Castlebay and giving wide-ranging views over the coast and in particular southwards to Vatersay, Mingulay and numerous smaller islands. Most walkers probably go to the summit and back, but a slightly longer route doing a circuit over Hartaval makes for a much more interesting walk and one where for much of the time you'll probably have the place to yourself.
