A hidden route to the Carloway Broch

Walk ID: 3708

This walk leads right through the village of Tolsta Chaolais, south of Carloway in Lewis. After leaving the main road, vistas open up ahead over the village and Loch Roag behind. Tolsta Chaolais is a quiet little place, perched over a beautiful village loch. At the far end, the walk veers north and traverses a short section of moorland on a good path. The first objective, the Doune Braes Hotel, is reached after just over an hour. A short section along the relatively quiet A858 road brings the walker to the access road to the famous Carloway Broch, which is prominent on a hill. The walk ends at the broch itself, which commands grand views over the neighbouring lochs, moors, hills and sea.
