Bewdley - Severn Valley - Arley - Bewdley

Walk ID: 3669

This circular walk starts in Bewdley, a beautiful little Georgian town on the banks of the River Severn. Bewdley has a good selection of shops, cafes, restaurants, takeaways and pubs and access by bus and rail.
The walk follows rural riverside paths with abundant wildlife, to the hamlet of Arley with its footbridge allowing a return to Bewdley on the opposite bank. The walk is largely on undulating, unsurfaced paths and can therefore be very muddy in places.
The Severn Valley Railway is never far away and there are stations at both Arley and Bewdley, allowing one leg of the journey to be by rail if a shorter walk is preferred.
As it stands the walk offers the possibility of a mid-walk break for a drink or meal in Arley, but if Arley is chosen as the starting point, then Bewdley offers even more choice of places for such refreshment.

18/09/09 - John Holden : A very pleasant and easy walk, easy to follow and level. If you want to see / photograph trains I recommend arriving at the Victoria Bridge about 5 minutes before the northbound train is due into Arley. You'll see the northbound train and, a few minutes later, the southbound, as they pass at Arley. The tea shop at Arley is right next to the river with great views but is closed on Mondays. The PO / general store also seemed to be closing at about 13:00 on Monday, as I arrived, so I wasn't able to buy one of the tempting local ice creams and was forced to back track to pub. Tragic. :-)
