Manton - Brooke - Gunthorpe

Walk ID: 3243

A wonderful little walk starting from the pretty village of Manton in Rutland and visiting Brooke and Gunthorpe. The beautiful church of St Peter at Brooke is a joy to enter and has in its possession a rare Judas Bible, printed in London in 1511 and so called because in the Gospel according to St Matthew chapter 36: verse 26, Jesus is wrongly referred to as Judas. The dwellings are exquisite and enchanting, tempting the wanderer to linger and gaze. The gentle, rolling landscape is delightful and the fields are mostly arable.

20/04/09 - CAROLE COLE : We found these directions quite ambiguous. We too went wrong at step 2 when we passed the house at the top of the hill and then the directions didn't make sense at all. On our second attempt we correctly used the gate at the bottom of the field but still found the directions confusing as there were many possible interpretations. My best advice would be, if there is any ambiguity to take the forward direction.

14/10/08 - Martin Wood : We enjoyed this walk. We nearly went wrong at step 1 - you almost do not need to go down the road as the stile is literally just past the pub. On step 2 we did make a mistake - having passed the house on the hill we went out of the top of the field at the end of the track whereas I think we should have crossed the track and gone down into the valley. This only meant we walked on and came out above Brook and then walked down the hill.

03/05/09 - Walkingworld Administrator : Thanks for your help, Carole. We have amended the instructions for waymark 2 - 3. We hope no-one else has any further problems. Walkingworld would be grateful for confirmation that our new instructions do the trick, thank you.
