If you are looking for an easy walk for a Sunday morning, then this is the one for you. The walk takes in a number of the woodland areas close to the centre of Durham and also follows the River Wear. On a Sunday you will see lots of Olympic hopefuls out rowing on the river. The views of the cathedral and castle from the riverside are quite spectacular, seen before entering the city via the marketplace. Overall, this is a very relaxed and enjoyable walk through some of the nicest parts of the City of Durham.

We enjoyed this walk on a cold but sunny day in January . We took a detour into the beautiful city and visited the Cathedral . There are plenty of good places to stop for refreshments in the town . The path is still closed between 21 and 22 as mentioned in another post but it wasn't a problem for us . We had a roast dinner at The Rose Tree Inn which is at the end of the walk by the bridge where the car park is a lovely treat at the end of a very enjoyable walk.

Due to flooding and fallen trees, the river-side path has been closed for some considerable time and the path between 21 and 22 has been diverted up some quite steep slopes into woodland. Also, the path between 23 and 24 has been closed - no reason given - and it was necessary to return to the river bank at 22 and follow the riverside path to the end of the walk. In spite of these difficulties, I thoroughly enjoyed the walk.
