Stage 5 of the GR11 makes an interesting change from the previous stages, as it follows the route of the Camino de Santiago (albeit in the opposite direction) for the first 13.5km. It's nice to see how the other half lives - wide paths, great waymarkers and lots of interesting people. The shared route with the Camino goes north from Burgete through the woods to Roncesvalles with the monastery and pilgrim halt. The route then goes north, following the old pilgrim trail to Puerto de Ibaneta and climbs steeply east to skirt the north side of Mendi Chipi. You leave the pilgrim route at Waymark 12 and continue east, following the Spanish / French border before turning south-east and then south, to drop down to the ruined armaments factory and hamlet of Fabrica de Orbaiceta.
