Casares - Sierra Crestellina Circuit
|
Walk
ID: 2809 |
The walk starts in the spectacularly situated Casares village, set with its castle above the gorge. The route climbs steeply to the new refugio on the southern end of the Crestellina Ridge and visits the viewpoint, with the most stunning views of the lower Costa del Sol from Estepona to Ageciras, taking in Gibraltar and the Straits over to North Africa, Ceuta and the Riff Mountains beyond. The walk continues on the east side of the ridge with its profusion of flora and fauna. Apart from griffon vultures we saw a Bonelli's eagle and several peregrine falcons and came close up and personal with a wild boar (not sure who was more frightened, him or us). The route continues up to Puerto de las Vinas at the head of the valley and returns via the old smugglers' route to Casares.
