Atlanterra - Bolonia Circuit
|
Walk
ID: 2803 |
This is a great walk, with something for everyone: fantastic scenery, superb beaches, excellent sea views out towards Africa, woodland tracks, loads of birdlife and wildflowers (especially in spring), plus the historic Roman ruins at Baelo Claudia. Climbing up the back of the giant Bolonia sand-dune and seeing the spectacular 360-degree views when you reach the top, is a truly fantastic experience. The walk starts at the car park below the Faro de Camarinal in Atlanterra and heads up towards the lighthouse then down to the beach on the other side. From here the route cuts through the pine forest, up the back of the Bolonia sand-dune, down to the beach and on to the Roman ruins at Baelo Claudia. The ruins are well worth a visit and are open all year round. Entry is free if you show your EU passport. After visiting the ruins and maybe taking lunch in one of the cafes, the walk heads back into the woods and up towards the sierra. There are great views of Bolonia below and some dramatic rock formations above. The final part of the walk heads down towards the lighthouse.

This route is blocked.
At Number 10 of the walk steps or GPS WP 10 and 11, there is now a serious barbed wire fence. It is on both sides of the road preventing access into the wooded area. We turned around and went back to start point.
