The walk starts from the car park of the Nerja Caves. Don't be put off by the fact that the outward journey is up the driveable track to the El Pinarillo recreation area and picnic spot, because the easy walking gives you the opportunity to take in the magnificent mountain landscape of the Axarquia Sierras. Dally a while at the picnic spot of El Pinarillo and then take a short circuit into the mountains on the lower slopes of Cielo and to Fuente del Esparto, up to the viewpoint overlooking the Sierra de Enmedio. The return makes a detour into the Calaillo Gorge, a dramatic dry river canyon above the replica Maro aqueduct. You can round the day off with a visit to the Nerja Caves at the start of the walk.
