Sgor Gaoith from Glen Feshie
|
Walk
ID: 2509 |
From the car park at Auchlean in Glen Feshie, this walk climbs steadily over open hillside gaining 720 metres in height to reach the summit of Carn Ban Mor (1,052m). The early part of the ascent provides a super view over the beautiful glaciated valley of Glen Feshie. From Carn Ban Mor a fairly easy 2km walk along the ridge leads to the summit of Sgor Gaoith (1,118m). From a distance Sgor Gaoith looks just an ordinary mountain, but as you near the summit your realise that the eastern side has been removed by a glacier, leaving a spectacular drop of over 2,000 feet to Loch Einich. The amazing view makes the climb worthwhile. Directly across the loch lies the impressive Braeriach (1,296m), Scotland's third highest peak. The return route retraces the outward route.
Once you leave the small pine wood in Glen Feshie there is little shelter on this route apart from a small gully halfway up the ascent and the low circular cairn on Carn Ban Mor. Go well prepared, you may get snow up there even in summer!
