Kirroughtree 'Blue' Route: Larg Hill and Bruntis Loch
|
Walk
ID: 2365 |
When the Scots find a name they like, they tend to use it liberally. Thus in Galloway, there are no fewer than three mountains which include the name 'Cairnsmore'. Similarly, there are several hills named 'Larg', two of which are within sight of each other; confusingly, one Larg 'Hill' is actually a mountain of over 2,000ft! Set within the Galloway Forest Park, this pleasant walk follows Forestry Commission Scotland's trail around the 'other' Larg Hill, a more modest 561ft / 171m. The route starts from Kirroughtree Visitor Centre and is mainly level or of easy gradients and along good paths, tracks and forest roads. It skirts the lovely Bruntis Loch and follows the course of a tumbling burn back to the visitor centre. There are occasional views across open countryside and of mountains and the Solway Firth.
Information for Dog Owners: dogs should be kept on the lead because of sheep and wildlife.
