O Pindo and the Xallas Gorge
|
Walk
ID: 2284 |
From the Galician seaside resort village of O Pindo, in the shadow of the rugged Monte Pindo - its highest point A Moa at 627m - the route encircles a headland with views across to Fisterra, in ancient times believed to be the edge of the world. It then takes the coast road to reach the estuary of the Rio Xallas and steeply ascends a mountain road, to a viewpoint over estuary and coast and across to the peaks of the Monte Pindo massif. The route continues to a hydroelectric dam. Return is made from below the dam, initially 'boulder-hopping' along the riverbed and then taking a handrailed path cut into the side of the spectacular Xallas Gorge, descending to Ezaro and back to O Pindo via the higher path.
