Trevélez - Cortijo de Chordi - Trevélez Gorge
|
Walk
ID: 2277 |
This outstanding circular walk starts from Trevélez, the highest village in Spain (some say Europe) and is one of several possible routes generally following the line of the Río Trevélez as it flows down out of the high Alpujarras. This route climbs the eastern flank of the Trevélez Gorge, offering magnificent views of Mulhacén, the highest point in mainland Spain. The route continues up to the Cortijo de Chordi, spectacularly situated at the head of the Trevélez Gorge. Following a steep descent into the gorge, the return route follows the course of the Río Trevélez along the valley floor. You will be forgiven for thinking that the route might actually be in the bed of the river, as it can be and often is, very wet throughout its length. If it gets too much you can combine this route with Walk 2278 Trevélez - Dog's Bottom circuit, leaving the river just after the bridge at Waymark 16. The good thing is that this way is much less wet; the bad thing is the route is 300m up a very steep climb on the western flank of the gorge. Oh, the height gain!
