Carlton Mill Circular

Walk ID: 2147

Our walk starts from in front of Carlton Church, which is believed to date back to 705AD, with Anglo-Saxon and Norman influence. The village itself is mentioned in the Domesday Book, as is the mill just along from the church, unusual in that it is situated on an island with the lake behind and a stream either side. We walk across pastureland, then through Wallingwells Woods, an old woodland dominated by yew and rhododendron, towards the old hall. Around the lanes and down, passing the lake to Holme House Farm, then across the fields where Carlton Lake can be seen clearly, thus back to the mill and church.

The mill is open the last weekend of June, when it is used as a display area for the village flower club, with proceeds going to charity.
