Loch Glascarnoch
|
Walk
ID: 2144 |
Loch Glascarnoch, a reservoir 7km long, is about halfway between Ullapool and Inverness.
The A835 follows its south shore and has several parking areas / viewpoints, but they are not linked by a path. The best views are from the other side, where a track leads to a small power station about halfway along the loch. When the glen was flooded, stands of trees were covered and now a lot of driftwood (with many shapely, ornamental pieces for house or garden) has been blown eastwards to accumulate in the small bays.
A good family walk, with no special footwear needed, unless you leave the path to gather driftwood.
Refreshments etc are at the nearby Aultguish Inn.
