Dava - Dava Moor - Dunphail

Walk ID: 2132

Don't be put off by the 'dismantled railway'. It was closed and dismantled in the 1960s so is now just another (well-graded!) moorland path. The surface alternates between gravelly and grassy and is dry (save for the last 200m). The track is on the open moor, away from habitation, with always changing 360-degree views. Deer and buzzards may be seen; boots are recommended; a good family walk (dog too).

This walk is now part of the newly made (2005) Dava Way linking Forres and Grantown on Spey. The Way is 40km long and is covered in Walks 3090, 2132 and 3091.

19/02/06 - Bob Harcus : It is worth noting that the "PH" at 020473 is no longer open as a public house - so no refreshment available here. Otherwise a pleasant walk through open country on good ground - a nice viaduct towards the north end of the trip.

Please note: if you try to make a circular route back to Dava via the old military road (a route not described on this particular guided walk), the bridge at 997416 is down and the ford is knee-deep at best.
