This outstanding day walk is one of the best in the region and connects two of the prettiest white villages of Andalusia (Grazalema and Benaocaz). The route makes a traverse of the southern part of Sierra Grazalema, one of the most spectacular walking and wildlife areas in the region. This is a relatively long walk but extremely rewarding, with plenty of magnificent scenery including the dramatic Salto del Cabrero (Goatherd's Leap), a feature of the region. The route starts at the Merendero del Boyar picnic spot and viewpoint and follows the southern side of the valley towards the Goatherd's Leap. After a short diversion to visit the Salto del Cabrero, the route leads south towards Benaocaz with breathtaking views on the descent to the village. After a short visit to Benaocaz (lunch?) the path returns through the centre of the sierra massif alongside many hanging valleys (llanos) leading back towards the start, making the steep final descent to the Merendero del Boyar between soaring limestone peaks, with spectacular views of El Torreon (1,648m) and the Sierra del Pinar.

You can extend the walk at either end by starting and finishing in Grazalema (see Walkingworld Walk 2037).

This is a so-called Free Access Walk; no permission is required for the route (as opposed to walks in the reservation area where authorization is always required and access is strictly controlled).
