Farley Mount - Ashley - The Clarendon Way

Walk ID: 1944

This easy circular walk starts at the popular Farley Mount Country Park near Winchester. The route winds its way through woodland and downland, passing through the sleepy village of Ashley en route. The Clarendon Way, which runs from Salisbury to Winchester, takes the walker from near Ashley back to the start of the walk, at 140m above sea level, with the option to detour slightly off route for the summit of Farley Mount itself (178m).

It is unlikely that you'll meet any other walkers on the route, except along the stretch of the Clarendon Way (even this will hardly be busy), but there is plenty of wildlife to be discovered, possibly even a herd of wild deer.

28/08/05 - Ben Tobin : The best Walkingworld walk we have done so far. Thanks.

21/08/09 - Lynn Owen : A lovely walk with beautiful views as described in previous comments. Very good and concise instructions with lots of reassuring detail.

13/10/09 - larry walder : For the first time ever with walking world we failed to start as we could not locate the correct start car park. Perhaps you could give us directions from Crabtree car park, or other help. Thanking you all for a great walking club. Larry Walder, Southampton

06/04/07 - Helena Pugsley : Have just got back from doing this walk today (Friday 6th April 2007). It took us a little longer than I had expected - about 2 hours 45 minutes - but that was probably due to me stopping at numerous good photographic spots! It's a beautiful walk and I'd recommend it. There are a few hills to walk up but gorgeous views make them worthwhile.

01/07/06 - Ray Churcher : Did this one on Sunday 25th June 2006, although I missed out the bit to Ashley Church. Excellent walk and well described and routed. For others, who may get confused, the part beyond point 12 is as described. The route does actually go ACROSS A GARDEN LAWN. It can be a little confusing. I was put right by the owner who pointed me on my way. I would ignore the rather dramatic comments about rapists and stalkers and get out there and enjoy this walk. Thanks for this Peter, Ray Churcher.
