Gringley-on-the-Hill - Cuckoo Way - Clayworth

Walk ID: 1933

Starting at the post office in Gringley-on-the-Hill, this walk takes advantage of two long-distance footpaths which converge just to the north of Gringley.

The first is the Cuckoo Way, which starts at the River Trent near West Stockwith and runs mainly along the Chesterfield Canal to Chesterfield. We only use the stretch between Gringley and the little Nottinghamshire village of Clayworth, where many narrowboats and cruisers moor near the rowing club.

Here, using green lanes and field-paths, we cross to the next of the long-distance footpaths, the Trent Valley Way. This path runs from Long Eaton, south of Nottingham, sharing the last stretch up to West Stockwith with the Cuckoo Way, running alongside the Chesterfield Canal. We follow the Trent Valley Way over fields and through woodland, back to Gringley.

29/08/07 - Walkingworld Administrator : Thank you Michael. Your changes have been incorporated. Sam Roebuck and Walkingworld

12/08/07 - Michael Handsley : Eccellant canalside walk. with some good pubs on the way! Just worth a mention that the Gringley post Office is now a private house. The instructions could be changed to read; with the parish church on your left, continue ----

09/02/05 - Elaine Cooper : This is an excellent walk for those of you like me are just starting walking, that need a little more distance, but without the "o'er vales and hills".It's flat almost all the way with only a slight incline over a field footpath. If walked the other way round then there are no inclines at all really.Either way round it is a very pleasant walk. Elaine Cooper & Ken Hannett.
