Carn Liath is the lowest and most easily accessible of the four tops which make up the Beinn a' Ghlo massif. From a grassy car park at Loch Moraig to the north of Blair Atholl, the route follows a good moorland path for 2km to the foot of the mountain. An easily followed path rises 550m in a distance of 2.5km to the cairn and trig point at summit. The return path retraces the same route. The summit provides a 360-degree panorama over north-west Perthshire and up to the Cairngorms. Immediately to the north-east lie the three other tops of the Beinn a' Ghlo massif, all over 1000m although only two qualify as Mumros. The easily visible path over the sweeping ridge may tempt you to plan a further expedition to these peaks.
