Balcary Bay - Loch Mackie - Rascarrel Bay - Balcary Bay
There is stunning coastal scenery on this superb short walk, though care must be exercised on the climactic final lap around Balcary Point.
Park in the Balcary Bay Hotel's car park and take the Airds of Balcary footpath, with views of Screel Hill and Bengairn, to reach Loch Mackie. Here make for Rascarrel Bay and walk the foreshore, then climb to Adam's Chair. Next you must decide whether to take the footpath inland back to the hotel, or opt for the narrow path atop sheer cliffs around Balcary Point and some spectacular coastal views.
Balcary is south-east of Auchencairn, in the old Stewartry of Kirkcudbright.
