This long but easy walk, entirely on forest roads, tours the largest of the forests making up the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park - Loch Ard Forest. Although in a coniferous forest, the route has plenty to interest, including a lochside walk along Loch Ard, an impressive Victorian aqueduct and superb views west to Ben Lomond.

The route begins in the centre of Aberfoyle, a major tourist centre for the Trossachs a few miles to the north, with a wide range of visitor attractions and facilities including the Scottish Wool Centre. A few hundred metres to the north is the David Marshall Lodge and Queen Elizabeth Forest Park visitor centre, well worth a visit. The walk starts by heading along a quiet road out of the town and into Milton. It turns left at the mill and heads into the forest, first following close by the shore of Loch Ard before turning inland and continuing to the west along wide forest tracks, with fine views ahead to Ben Lomond and over to the loch and Couligartan. At the Victorian Loch Katrine - Glasgow aqueduct, the route turns and follows the aqueduct SE down to the Duchray Water before turning left and heading east along a long but easy forest track, passing Duchray Castle and Lochan Spling, ending at Kirkton, just outside Aberfoyle.
