Forvie Sands to Collieston
|
Walk
ID: 1536 |
This walk starts near the mouth of the River Ythan. After following the side of the river, the path leads over sand-dunes to the seashore. It is an area rich in birdlife and some parts of the dunes are restricted in the breeding season.
Continuing northwards along the beach of golden sands, the route then goes slightly inland to follow a coastal path past quiet bays and clifftops, to the village of Collieston.
The return route through the nature reserve passes near a visitor centre, then takes a more inland route back to the car park over old sand-dunes. It is an area with great diversity of both bird and plantlife.
Navigating across the sand dunes may be tricky. Walkingworld would recommend a compass or GPS to assist with this part of the route.

10/09/07 - Bryan McAlister :
Final section not clear at all, also area much boggier/ponds etc than indicated, suspect route superceded by marked paths, and lies of the ground sends too far inland. We returned to the marked coastal path to get back to car park. First section, dunes and beach, is really spectacular.
01/04/07 - Glenn Basford :
Beautiful walk from Forvie to Collieston but navigating the return leg over the dunes was difficult and we strayed off the track to spend most of the time trudging through bogs.
