Explore Abernethy - Broomhill Walk
|
Walk
ID: 1379 |
Beautiful scenery, open farmland and mixed deciduous trees. Look out for curlew, lapwing, oystercatcher, goldeneye ducks and buzzards. The River Spey is a popular location for trout and salmon fishing. The walk takes you to Broomhill Station, recently refurbished and newly-opened extension to the Strathspey Steam Railway Company in 2002. This station is more famously known as Glenbogle Station in the popular TV series Monarch of the Glen. The steam railway arrived in the area in 1863 but has not been used since the 1960s as the main line Aviemore and Inverness became the main transport use and timber industries declined.
Warning: the path may be impassable when the river level is high. Please keep your dog on a lead near stock.
