Nethy Bridge Circular Walk
|
Walk
ID: 1378 |
The outward half of this walk is along part of the Speyside Way, following the track of the dismantled railway between Nethy Bridge and Grantown. It's a delightful walk on a dry, springy path, through open fragments of woodland, and farmland (fences on both sides of the path keep dogs out of trouble).
The return is in contrast, through open pine forest (paths may be muddy in places). Good views to the Cairngorms and across the Spey Valley.

26/08/07 - Helen McCluskey :
This was a good family walk. But we did encounter a problem at Balliefurth farm. The walk takes you directly through the farm, when we arrived the farmer was moving stock through the yard. This included cows with newborn. At this time mothers are very protective re their young. One of the younger children made a sudden move towards the calves, and was immediately 'threatened' by one of the cows, clearly much bigger than he was. This was a dangerous situation. The farmer, quite rightly in my opinion, suggested the route through a working farm is perhaps not suitable. He was not nasty or unreasonable, and did not have a 'get orf my land' attitude. He did point out that access to the B970 can be obtained by walking a little further to Boat of Balliefurth, then coming back down the road to point 7. This of course would add about another mile.
