Edderton - Struie Hill
|
Walk
ID: 1255 |
The Dornoch Firth is the most northerly of the three great firths that penetrate deeply into the eastern side of the Northern Highlands. Arguably it is also the most picturesque, with wooded shores and a series of small hills overlooking the firth - the most prominent feature being the rocky prow of Struie Hill, topped by a communications mast. Although the ascent may look almost impossible from the road, this route takes you easily to the summit by winding its way up the southern slopes to join a broad ridge a little to the south-west of the summit. You can also reach this point from the B9176 (known as the Struie Hill road) but by following this route you have constant good views over the firth itself. Although quite short (7km) the walk is graded moderate as it has a steep climb and the tracks, although easy to follow can be rough and boggy.

18/11/09 - GORDON LINDSAY :
Nice walk it is but the initial ascent is indeed steep; I extended it by going right along the ridge to the Struie road (some 3km) which makes it into a good 3 hour walk.
