Starting behind the Raemoir House Hotel, this walk almost immediately starts to climb through very pleasant woodland with glimpses of rural scenes through the edge of the wood. It continues to rise steadily until the woodland eventually gives way to open heather moorland. Good views southwards are enjoyed until the route turns to the north-east. This section is much more level, although it eventually undulates some more. By this time full spectacular panoramic views from Deeside to Donside can be enjoyed. The descent then begins and the heather is left behind as the track returns to forest. Much of the woodland has recently been felled, so the outlook is improved. Eventually the walk returns to more fertile land, passing farmland on the way back to the start.
