The area of Serra de na Burguesa, just to the west of Palma, is visited by relatively few walkers but, for anyone who enjoys a gentle ramble through fine countryside with glorious views, it is guaranteed to appeal. We begin at a height of around 370 metres, so the open views are achieved without a lot of climbing. In spring the trees are full of songbirds and later in the year the medronho (wild strawberry) trees that line much of the route add colour with their fruit and blossom - often both on the tree at the same time! We visit two main viewpoints. The Mirador de n'Alzamora is a ruined hut perched on the precipitous end of a ridge. Its terrace makes an excellent picnic spot. In the valley below are the towns of Calvia and Capdella. To the south are views to the coast around Peguera and the peaks of S'Esclop and Galatzo are prominent to the north. We then proceed to a viewpoint near the top of the Cami de Bendinat, from where we can look down on Palma and take in the whole sweep of Palma Bay below us. On the return leg of the route, the peaks of the Tramuntana mountain range are spread across in front of us. Because of the extensive views, we recommend doing this walk on a clear day.
