This walk offers great variety. We begin with a stroll through open countryside with superb all-round views, including glimpses of the sea through the hills to the south. In an easterly direction is the distinctive peak of S'Esclop at the start of the Tramuntana Range. For those who believe Mallorca is a crowded island, the remoteness of this landscape will come as a surprise.

After an hour, we reach the sea. Here there are spectacular views of the rugged northern coastline of Mallorca. Along the coast path, we can make a short diversion to visit a viewpoint at the top of a 400m vertical cliff. From here on, the distinctive shape of Dragonera Island is a key feature of the seascape. We visit the extraordinary Trappist monastery of La Trapa, one of the great sites of Mallorca and now under restoration after being abandoned for around 200 years.

The descent from La Trapa provides more variety, with a stretch of rocky scramble, paths through picturesque woodland and frequent views along the coast and out over the sea. We finish in the little seaside resort of Sant Elm, which can provide welcome refreshment on a hot day.
